چکیده

An important class of ecological problems concerns propagation processes. In ecological modelling, these phenomena generally occur on large scales and are generally difficult to simulate efficiently because of the number of entities. Studies of this kind of phenomena lack genericity and reusability because they are often presented from the point of view of a single domain expert. Simulations made by domain experts seem to lack genericity for computer science specialists and simulations developed by computer science specialists seem not to grasp the terminology and problems of the domain experts. We propose here a general object-oriented framework for modelling and simulation of propagation processes. Object-oriented techniques help in developing generic and reusable models. From modelling to simulation, the Unified Modelling Language (UML) provides a common means of communication between computer science specialists and domain experts. The Model Driven Architecture (MDA) is used to improve object-oriented methodology. Simulation optimisations are defined for discrete time models of propagation. The approach is applied to the modelling and simulation of fire spread. Starting from wasteland fire problems, specification levels are used to gradually specify a fire spread simulator. Each level of the study is specified in UML and thus can be reused in another wasteland fire problem. 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Object-oriented Framework for Modelling and Simulation of Propagation Processes : Application to a Fire Spreading

An important class of ecological problems concerns propagation processes. In ecological modelling, these phenomena generally occur on large scales and are generally difficult to efficiently simulate because of the number of entities and connections between entities. Studies of this kind of phenomena lack genericity and reusability because they are often presented through the point of view of a ...

Examination of wind speed thresholds for vorticity-driven lateral fire spread

Recent work has demonstrated that under conditions of extreme fire weather, bushfires burning in rugged terrain can exhibit highly atypical patterns of propagation, which can have a dramatic effect on subsequent fire development. In particular, wildfires have been observed to spread laterally across steep, lee-facing slopes in a process that has been termed ’fire channelling’. Fire channelling,...

Spatial controls of occurrence and spread of wildfires in the Missouri Ozark Highlands.

Understanding spatial controls on wildfires is important when designing adaptive fire management plans and optimizing fuel treatment locations on a forest landscape. Previous research about this topic focused primarily on spatial controls for fire origin locations alone. Fire spread and behavior were largely overlooked. This paper contrasts the relative importance of biotic, abiotic, and anthro...

Crisis Management in Forest Fire by use of Image Landsat in Model Fire Risk (Case Study: Bioreh Protected Area, Illam Province)

Forest fire brings forest destruction as an important part of human environments, air pollution, and the loss of wealth and facilities, and endangers the lives of human beings in the vicinity of the forest. It is one of the examples of natural crises and is considered to be a crisis management. Identifying the effective factors in the occurrence of fire and hazard zoning is one of the basic too...

FireStation - an integrated software system for the numerical simulation of fire spread on complex topography

A software system aimed at the simulation of fire spread over complex topography is presented. The software implements a semi-empirical model for fire rate of spread, which takes as input local terrain slope, parameters describing fuel properties as well as the wind speed and direction. Fire shape is described with recourse to an ellipsetype model. Two different models are implemented for the s...
